The two things that enable our abdomen to look flat, and give it its nice appearance are the two muscles under it. If we gain excess weight and if women give birth in particular, these muscles expand towards the sides, i.e. gets ripped (as colloquially known), and then the internal membrane keeping the bowels bulges outwardly. Of course, if there is a fat accumulation, and if a second childbirth has been experienced, a disaster appears.
What happen? In particular, a protruding or sagging abdomen may develop and the degree of such a protrusion or sagging can never be predicted. Also in men, protruding abdomen may exist due to excessive eating and excessive alcohol consumption, as well as excessive weight gains and losses (e.g. losing 30-50 kg). Of course, weight gains and losses cause sagging not only in the abdomen but also in every part of the body. A plastic surgeon corrects such sagging parts.
In surgical treatment of abdominal sagging and fat accumulation in women that constitutes the main part of our writing; whether the patient is a smoker is an important factor for us. When we say this; they say "what's it got to do with it?" It is so important that in abdominoplasty, the only nuisance suffered by doctors across the world is whether the patient is a smoker. It is because smoking causes vascular occlusion in all the blood vessels of the body, as known by everyone. And this area is one of the areas having a narrower vessel diameter. When we stretch this area during surgery, the blood circulation gets weaker. When you add also the narrowing, caused by smoking, this is a disaster in the making. However, with the new techniques applied in the last few years, we perform safer surgeries on smokers as well.
Let me describe the technical aspects of the surgery. After fasting for 8-10 hours, and after the medical tests, the anesthesiologist evaluates your condition. If you are suitable for surgery, you are taken to the operating room. Your Plastic Surgeon, who has evaluated your condition in advance, removes the sagging parts that he/she has previously marked, by cutting them following the cesarean line and acting symmetrically. You belly is protected until placed on its new place. After liposuction (removal of fat with vacuum) application to the required areas, the incision site is closed with very special sutures placed from the inside. Generally, there is no suture at the outside. With the technique, protrusion formation at the sides is no longer allowed and the patient has a slimmer waist. After a corset is put on the patient when he/she is on the operating table, he/she is waken up and sent to his/her bed. The patient is discharged after 2 days of hospitalization. After 10 - 15 days, his/her life begins to return to normal. It should be known that the patient does not need bed rest after 48 hours following the surgery. It is possible for the patient to spend the rest days by sitting.
